Set up encrypted calls and encrypted video calls
Use encrypted calls and encrypted video calls to keep your conversations private. Benefit from encrypted communication when connecting with your friends and family as Wispr calls, both voice and video, are end-to-end encrypted.
As all Wispr messages, voice and video calls are private too. You will be prompted to grant the Camera and Microphone permissions the first time you make or receive a Wispr call.
Set up encrypted calls and encrypted video calls
1. Select a one-to-one chat - On Android, tap 🖋 to select a contact, a Matrix ID or enter a number.
2. Select a contact, a Matrix ID or enter a number to open that conversation 🖋.
3. Tap the phone icon 📞 to start a voice call or camera icon to start a video call. When selecting a video call, tap the Start private call
4. Your call screen will show:
• Calling - while waiting for the call to connect with your contact
• Ringing - when your contact’s phone is online and ringing
Set encrypted conference calling
Use encrypted conference calling to keep your conversations private. Benefit from encrypted communication when connecting with your friends, family and business partners as Wispr calls, both voice and video, are end-to-end encrypted.
Group call requirements:
To initiate a group call you have these requirements:
• each participant is using the latest version of Wispr
• each participant is a member of the same Wispr Group chat
Here’s how to start an encrypted group voice or video call:
1. Open the group chat.
2. Tap 📞 and Start private call (vezi cum e butonul în aplicație) to start an encrypted group video call.
3. A notification will be sent to other members of the group. An alert will appear in the group chat history.
4. Your call screen will show:
• Calling - while waiting for the call to connect with your contact
• Ringing - when your contact’s phone is online and ringing
Set and manage disappearing messages:
Use disappearing messages to keep your message history in check. The selected message will disappear from your device after the timer expires.
• disappearing messages can be managed by any user in the chat
• the setting applies to any new message sent after the timer has been set or modified
• the timer can be set from 5 seconds up to 1 week
What does a disappearing message look like?
Each disappearing message will have a timer countdown icon that is visible at the bottom of the message bubble.
When does the timer start?
• for a sent disappearing message, the timer starts after you’ve sent it
• for a received disappearing message, the timer starts after you’ve read it
What happens when the disappearing message timer reaches the end?
The message is deleted from disk.
Steps to enable or change the disappearing message :
• decide to enable or change for a specific chat
• for a specific one-to-one chat, on any device go to chat settings > Disappearing messages
• for a specific group chat
‣ admins may select who can change the timer
‣ on any device go to chat settings > Disappearing messages
• select a time or choose a custom time of up to 1 week
• the chat header will include a timer icon
• an alert in your chat thread will display the new disappearing message time
Steps to disable:
1. Decide to disable or change for a specific chat
• for a specific one-to-one chat, on any device go to chat settings > Disappearing messages
• for a specific group chat
‣ admins may select who can change the timer
‣ on any device go to chat settings > Disappearing messages
2. Select Off which is listed at the top.
3. The chat header will not include a timer icon.
4. The chat will include an alert that the timer is Off.
5. All messages sent after this change will not disappear.
6. Any sent or received message will not contain a timer icon
Manage a group
Edit the group name, photo or description - admins or all group members may be selected to edit info.
1. Open the group chat and tap on to view group settings.
2. Tap !!!! in the top corner to edit the group name.
3. Options:
• choose a new name
• choose a new description
• tap the photo to pick a new photo
4. Tap Save.
Remove members
Admins may select who can remove others.
1. Open the group chat and tap on the group name.
2. View the group member list and confirm Admin is indicated next to You.
Non-admins can not remove members.
3. If you are an admin, tap on the member name.
4. Scroll to select Remove from group and select Remove.
View pending Member Requests or Pending Invites
Admins may select who can manage invites.
1. Open the group chat and tap on the group name on mobile or menu on desktop to view group settings.
2. Scroll to select Member Requests & Invites.
